Genesee County Prosecutor Issues Criminal Charges For

Racial Vandalism in Flushing County Park and River Walkway

FLINT --  Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton is issuing felony charges against five individuals for their roles in last month’s vandalism at Flushing County Park and the City’s river walkway.

Prosecutor Leyton said that he and his staff have reviewed an investigative report from City of Flushing Police and Genesee County Parks and Recreation officers pertaining to the vandalism.  The report showed that KKK signs and racial and sexual slurs were painted on pavilions, rooftops, garbage bins and signs throughout the park and a walking trail into downtown Flushing.  Based on the information from police, Prosecutor Leyton has authorized felony and misdemeanor charges against the individuals involved.

“The racist actions and attitudes of these individuals have no place in our community,” said Prosecutor Leyton.  “What they did was wrong on a number of levels and they will be held accountable under the law.”
