Michigan State House Committee on Education
Prosecutor Leyton recently appeared before the Michigan State House Committee on Education to testify about two bills introduced by State Representative Brenda Clack of Flint. House Bill 5381 would prohibit a juvenile who has been cited for willful and repeated absence from school from getting a drivers license for six months following the citation, or result in a suspension of their driver's license for 6 months. House Bill 5382 would require each Intermediate School District (ISD) and the county prosecutor to develop a local truancy policy that would apply to all the school districts within the ISD or would allow individual school districts to develop their own such plan within 180 days after the effective date of the bill.
