The HOME Program was
created under the Cranston-Gonzales National Affordable Housing Act of 1990 and
is to be implemented by the United States Department of Urban
Development (HUD). The
goal of the HOME Program is to expand the supply of decent, safe, sanitary, and
affordable housing units.
Under the HOME Program, Genesee County is awarded funding to be utilized only for housing activities. These activities may include new housing construction, housing rehabilitation, reconstruction, site improvements, acquisition of property/vacant land, demolition, relocation costs, and project related soft costs. Individuals, for-profit entities, and non-profits can all participate in the HOME Program.
Currently, the HOME Program
is providing assistance to several housing activities throughout the County.
Some of these include the continued development of senior citizen
housing, housing for persons with special needs, and construction of
single-family housing.

The Down Payment Assistance (DPA) and American
Dream Down Payment Initiative (ADDI) programs are supported by HOME funds.
These programs work in partnership with participating financial
institutions to provide
down payment and closing cost assistance to eligible
low and moderate
income homebuyers in the Out County.
