Genesee
County Solid Waste Management Plan
Genesee
County has updated the Solid Waste Management Plan for the county.
The Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as
amended , Part 115, Solid Waste Management, and its Administrative Rules,
requires that each county have a Solid Waste Management Plan Update every 5
years and that it be approved by the Michigan Department of Environmental
Quality.
As of April 18, 2002, the MDEQ approved the Genesee County Solid Waste Management Plan. Implementation of the Plan began at the time of approval. A Solid Waste Implementation Committee will be formed to coordinate the implementation.

charge at the Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission Offices

Beach Street, Flint, MI 48502-1470).
Genesee
County Solid Waste Ordinance
On
March 26, 2002, the Genesee County Board of Commissioners adopted the
Genesee
County Solid Waste Ordinance #0-2. The
purpose of the Ordinance is to implement the Genesee County Solid Waste
Management Plan, and to protect and promote the public health, safety and
welfare of the inhabitants of Genesee County by regulating the collection,
transportation, delivery, and disposal of solid waste; to establish conditions
for issuing waste hauler permits; to provide residents and businesses an
incentive to recycle, thereby reducing the volume of solid waste; to preserve
and improve the environment; to provide penalties for violations of the
Ordinance; and to establish a county surcharge on solid waste collected in
Genesee County, transported through a transfer facility in Genesee County, or
disposed of in Genesee County, the funds collected by this Ordinance to be used
to support the administration and solid waste planning and implementation
programs described in the Genesee County Solid Waste Management Plan, as
amended.
The Ordinance requires that all solid waste haulers that collect, transport, deliver or dispose of solid waste generated within Genesee County obtain a waste hauler permit.
The Ordinance also requires that quarterly reports be turned into the Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission Offices (1101 Beach Street, Flint, MI 48502-1470). Quarterly reports are required from all haulers, transfer stations, and landfills.
