*** Please note, if you need a copy of a record of a vital event that occurred in another county, you must contact that County Clerk’s vital records office. Order in Person at our Office If you would like to purchase a vital record in person, FIRST read all fee and eligibility information on this page. You can visit our office at 900 South Saginaw Street, Flint, MI, 48502 (2nd Floor of the Circuit Courthouse Building). Our office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Payment in cash is preferred. Customers purchasing copies of birth certificates will be required to provide a valid photo identification. Customers who purchase vital records in person at our office will receive the record immediately. Order On Line Until further notice, we do not have the ability to offer on line ordering of a Vital Record. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Order By Mail If you would like to place an order by mail, FIRST read all eligibility information on this page and then print out an application form to mail with a money order to our office. Payment by money order only. Our mailing address is Genesee County Clerk's Office, Attn: Vital Records, 900 South Saginaw Street, Flint, MI, 48502. Although processing time varies, most customers can expect to receive their vital record no more than 14 days from the date they mail their order. Fees for Vital Records The current fee for a certified copy of a Genesee County vital record is
$15.00. This fee is non-refundable and is
non-transferable. The $15.00 fee will provide
for a search. If no record is found or if the applicant requests a record that
they are not eligible to receive, the applicant will receive, in place of the
certified copy, an official statement that the record requested is not on file
with the Genesee County Clerk or an official statement that the applicant is
ineligible to receive the record. Again, fees are non-refundable and
are non-transferable. Overnight Shipping Fees Customers who wish to have their vital record shipped via UPS Overnight Services can do so by listing the overnight request on their order. The additional fee for overnight shipping is $30.00 for all records requested on the same order. Overnight shipping fees are non-refundable and are non-transferable. Provided that an order is received in our office prior to 2:00 p.m., records and/or responses are shipped on the date the order is received. Otherwise, overnight orders will be shipped on the next regular business day. Saturday delivery IS NOT AVAILABLE. Death and Marriage Records - Eligibility Requirements You must include sufficient information on the application about the record requested for us to locate the record. Anyone is eligible to receive a certified copy of a death or marriage record, if they make the request in writing and prepay the required search fee (Michigan Compiled Law 333.2882(1)). Birth Records - Eligibility Requirements You must include sufficient information on the application about the record requested for us to locate the record. Application forms are provided in our lobby or at the link above under "Order By Mail". You must provide a valid photo identification at the time of application. If making your request by mail, the applicant must include a photocopy of their valid photo identification. ONLY the following parties are eligible to request a certified copy of a birth record if they make the request in writing and prepay the required search fee (Michigan Compiled Law 333.2882(1)(a)):
If you do not meet one of the above two qualifications, you are NOT eligible to request the birth record. NOTE: Even with express permission, third parties DO NOT have authority to order birth records (third parties include but are not limited to spouses, grandparents, siblings, step-parents, foster care parents). Birth Record - If Child was Born to Single Mother If you were born prior to October of 1978 AND your mother was not married at the time of your birth, you MUST contact the State of Michigan’s vital records registry to get your record. http://www.michigan.gov/mdch Birth Record - Adopted or Legal Name Change If you are adopted or have had a legal name change (other than by marriage), you MUST contact the State of Michigan’s vital records registry to get your record. http://www.michigan.gov/mdch
