Commissioner John Northrup District 4
John W. Northrup took his seat as 4th District County Commissioner in January 1997, and he has been twice re-elected to his seat. During 6 years on the Board, Commissioner Northrup has sat on every standing committee, and he has served as Chairperson of the Governmental Operations and Finance Committees. He has also served as the Board representative on the 9-1-1 Consortium Board, and he is a member and has served as Chairperson of the Mass Transportation Authority and Genesee County Retirement Commission. Prior to his election to the County Board, Commissioner Northrup served the residents of the City of Flint on the Flint City Council for 26 years under the Council Manager and strong Mayor forms of government in Flint. He saw service as President and Vice President of the Council during his long tenure. Commissioner Northrup is a Genesee County native, and he is a graduate of Grand Blanc Community High School, earned an Associate's Degree from C.S. Mott Community College, and earned a Bachelor's in Arts from University of Michigan-Flint. John and Lucy Morrisey Northrup have 8 children and 13 grandchildren with another on the way.
