The Auto Theft Prevention Authority (ATPA) funds the grant which forms a consortium administered by the Governor, State Police, and insurance companies. One dollar from every automobile insured in Michigan funds the program. The auto division prosecutes cases vertically meaning it writes the warrants, advises the police on legal issues, conducts preliminary exams in District Court and prosecutes cases through Circuit Court trial if necessary.
The Auto Theft division currently consists of one attorney and one part-time secretary.
